Chilaquiles Verdes

One of my best friends and I stopped in on a Saturday morning to grab a drink to catch up and ended up ordering a tequila sunrise. This drink, by far, was the BEST tequila sunrise I have ever had. The bartender (Nunez,L - amazing bartender by the way) suggested we stay and enjoy a meal, so we took him up on his recommendation. We both ordered the Chilaquiles Verdes along with another tequila sunrise (because this drink was just too amazing to not have another) and I couldn't believe how delicious this meal was! This dish was more than I could have ever asked for because the chips were fresh, crisp, flavorful, and had the salsa verde sauce on ever chip (even on the bottom layered chips and NO, none of the chips were soggy - which was a major plus). Along with the salsa verde, they were topped with refried beans, Birria, queso fresco, pickled red onion, and sour cream. I wouldn't change one thing about this Chilaquiles Verdes plate because it was perfect as is! We were seated immediately, with no wait and the staff was very welcoming and very attentive. The ambiance here, on the outside patio, was remarkable!! I have already suggested this restaurant to so many of my friends and can't wait to return to explore more of the menu or maybe just order the Chilaquiles Verdes again!

Churros & French Toast

This was one of the best brunch dishes I've had in the year I've been living in San Diego. The Churros were the perfect mix of soft and delicious on the inside with a perfect crunch on the outside - the caramel sauce with fresh fruit and ice cream were delicious. The the whole meal, including the other dish we ordered, and the cocktails were a 10! This place is a MUST! Trust me, run, don't walk to Cocina De Barrio, you will not be disappointed!

Mango-Habanero Aguachile

Wow! Such a refreshing appetizer dish. The shrimp was perfectly made in the lime juice and retained great flavor. The blood orange in the aguachile was the perfect addition to balance the cool cucumbers and sweet spicy mango sauce. Would definitely recommend this dish!

Salmon En Mole Amarillo

I am not someone who typically likes "Mexican" food: I find it too heavy and fattening. But I was invited to dinner at Cocina de Barrio and assured that I would find plenty of dishes I'd like (although that didn't matter as much as the company), which was, indeed, true. First of all, this was one of the rare times I would be dining out during the pandemic. Cocina de Barrio had ample outdoor seating with wide spacing between tables. And even when it started drizzling our waitress offered to move a large umbrella under the existing awning to allow us to remain out of doors. Secondly, the menu was a revelation. I was delighted to see a lot of plant-based dishes but decided to try an intriguing Salmon with Mole sauce, I was a little concerned that the mole might overwhelm the fish but was delighted to find that it not only didn't mask the salmon but actually complemented and amplified it. I thought that it might have a tomato base, which I confirmed this morning by looking up this uniquely Oaxacan mole. I was so surprised that I encouraged others at the table to sample it, too, and all agreed that it was unique and delicious. Although I also tasted my dining companions' dishes (all excellent and quite varied) I liked my Salmon En Mole Amarillo best, and it was the only dish I had. But I will return and try some other dishes after having experienced how delightful and light everything tasted.

Infladita De Barbacoa

When the Infladita de Barbacoa plate arrived to the table my body instinctively did a happy dance. The colors on the plate made my eyes light up, the presentation of the dish was beautiful, and let me tell you it tasted even better. We also tried a few other plates which were totally mouth-watering in their own right, colorful, and left us wanting to order more right then and there. We washed it down with a couple Palomas and finished with a Cafe de Olla. So much yum! This whole restaurant, from the food and drinks to the interior is a respected nod to Oaxaca. Also, the young lady who was our server was so genuinely nice, attentive, and informative when we asked about the menu and the chef's inspiration for the menu. I cannot wait to go back. And I've noticed they've built a nice outdoor front patio space to accommodate for covid protocols, so I'll be back soon! Seriously, do not sleep on this place, it's an authentic gem!

Chicken Tinga Quesadillas

The chicken tinga quesadillas are absolutely amazing. Perfectly seasoned and flavorful. The house potatoes and beans that come with it are so good as well! I definitely recommend the chicken chinga quesadillas. My favorite dish here for brunch

We had several different items and they all were great! Not cheap, even during happy hour, but worth every penny. Will be back.

Infladita De Barbacoa

My goodness...what a gem of a place. Food is a mexi-fusion and extremely delicious. Drinks are incredible, had a Día de los Muertos special called "Recuérdame", and the dessert Pan de Elote 🤤🤤. Going back for brunch, Dave our waiter recommended it.
